hardnutsが放つ初のフルアルバム「Ark」。
M4「解体」、M5「空白」、M11「余白」、M12「方舟」を軸に、“僕”と“イヴ”という二人の人物が織りなす、切なくも美しい物語を描いたコンセプト作品。

旧約聖書「ノアの方舟」の物語を着想源とし、外界から隔絶された“部屋”と、すべてを流す“大雨”というモチーフを通じて、二人の精神世界や愛を浮かび上がらせる。願いや葛藤が渦巻く中で、最後に残ったものは何だったのか――その答えを聴き手に委ねている。

サウンドは90年代～00年代邦楽オルタナティブの影響を踏襲しつつも、さらに広く多彩な音楽性を吸収した。レコーディングには一発録りを取り入れ、音を重ねながらも生々しい息遣いを刻み込んでいる。長年信頼を寄せるエンジニア島田智朗氏と共に作り上げたサウンドは、日本のオルタナティブの文脈をなぞるだけではなく、hardnuts独自の音像へと昇華されている。

光への執着とあたたかさを軸に、幅広い感情の揺らぎを12曲に凝縮した本作。めまぐるしく移ろい続ける景色の中で、あなたの心に最後に残るものは何だろうか。

hardnuts releases their first full-length album, Ark.
Centered around tracks M4 “Kaitai,” M5 “Kuuhaku,” M11 “Yohaku,” and M12 “Hakobune,” the record unfolds as a conceptual work depicting a poignant and beautiful story of two characters: “Boku” (I) and “Eve.”

Drawing inspiration from the Old Testament story of Noah’s Ark, the album uses the motifs of an isolated “room” and the all-consuming “rain” to illuminate the inner world and love shared between the two. Amid swirling wishes and conflicts, what is ultimately left behind is left for the listener to discover.

Musically, the album inherits the influence of Japanese alternative rock from the ’90s and ’00s, while embracing a wide spectrum of sounds beyond that lineage. The band incorporated live takes during recording, capturing raw breath and presence even as layers of sound intertwine. Produced alongside long-trusted engineer Tomoaki Shimada, the sound transcends simple homage to Japanese alternative traditions, crystallizing into a soundscape uniquely their own.

With an enduring fixation on light and warmth at its core, Ark condenses a wide range of emotional shifts into 12 tracks. In a world of ever-changing scenery, what will remain in your heart at the end?
